When it comes to getting the perfect wedding portrait, there are a number of factors that need to be taken into consideration. From the hair and makeup to the overall styling, setting and composition, the list of fine details can be countless.
But there is one thing that can truly make or break a wedding photography shoot. And that is the poses simulated for the portraits in question. Having awkward expressions to the incorrect placement of hands and legs, nailing the perfect pose requires a true expert’s guidance. And in the case of a wedding photography shoot, it’s up to the photographer in charge to offer good direction and poses.
Here are my top picks regarding how I like to pose my couples for wedding shoots. Let’s take a look!
Eliminating that shyness or awkward element amongst couples
It’s easy for couples to go about getting all nervous and shy when posing for the camera. I love working with such couples and bringing them out of their shell is truly something I’m great at. I try to make them comfortable and allow them to interact with one another during the shoot. There’s nothing better that raw natural goodness.
Standing face to face in front of one another
Intimate close-ups of couples on their wedding night are an absolute must in my books. I ask couples to stand very close towards one another, zooming in on their expressions and emotions while being ready to crop in real tight.
Keeping it easy with short and sweet cordial poses
Classic wedding styles with the husband holding the wife from behind are truly a winning shot that I like to include in my albums. I ask the couples to either look into each other’s eyes or straight into the camera, whatever they feel comfortable with.
Fun loving poses are a sheer joy to witness
Fun loving poses with the husband carrying his bride or holding her onto his back is the type of direction I like to head towards to incorporate a little fun and creativity with simple hand positioning.
Switching things up a bit
Flirtatious looks with the couple looking at one another instead of constantly gazing into the camera or shots of the bride holding her husband from behind tend to change the normal trends of wedding photography, adding uniqueness that’s second to none.
Romantic moods appear fabulous in portrait mode
I simply can’t get enough of romantic moods where you’re present outdoors with lots of open space. I prefer to shoot such scenes from a slight distance to capture each partner’s nearest eye.
Elevation from a height
Shooting the couple from a certain height or simple from above gives any common shot a very innovative and different angle. Trust me when I say it’s rewarding when you see the actual results.
Full height shots
For a delightfully calm and affectionate shot, posing for a full height click can truly set the mood for some special wedding photography in my books.
Fun and spontaneous poses never hurt anybody
Who said wedding photography had to be boring? Switch things up a bit by incorporating close-ups, full height shots, different frames and innovative compositions. You’ll be surprised how well your clicks actually turn out.
